Joseph Haydn was a central figure in the Classical period in Vienna. He was one of the most prolific composer of this period.
He was a friend to Beethoven and Mozart, who familiarly called him "Papa Haydn", in reference to the titles of "Father of the Symphony" or "Father of the String Quartet" because of his important contributions to these forms.
